Following Frigorifero d’Arte, Smeg’s successful collaboration with Dolce and Gabbana last year, the two brands launched a new colourful collaboration in October called ‘Sicily is my Love.’
The new unique collection, which was announced in April during the Milan Design Fair, Salone del Mobile di Milano 2017, consists of Smeg’s award-winning small appliance range infused with exquisitely elaborate designs in celebration of the rich Sicilian cultural heritage, and in line with Dolce & Gabbana’s signature decorative style.
The range includes coffee machines, toasters, citrus juicers, kettles, blenders and stand mixers, among other items. Each item has been decorated with specifically Sicilian motifs; gold lemons and citrus fruits, prickly pears and bold, bright cherries. In fact, every little detail links back to Sicily, the home of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
In addition, every item in the collection is a reference to the Southern Italian province’s traditional dishes and culinary delights. The decorations are shaped in triangular motifs referred to as crocchi. The collection also boasts flower motifs inspired by the coasts and landscapes of Southern Italy, and Etna, Europe’s tallest active volcano located in Sicily.
This new collection further builds on the increasingly close relationship between fashion, design and technology. Last year’s ‘Frigorifero d’Arte’, the bespoke refrigerator collection hand painted by Sicilian artists, transformed the brand’s revered FAB28 fridge into a work of art for the home.
Both brands’ respect for family tradition and the importance of maintaining local roots underlies these collaborations, as well as the coveted ‘Made in Italy’ label.
