Sir Ranulph Fiennes to headline new Steppes Travel festival highlighting the role of responsible tourism for travellers.
The brainchild of Steppe Travel’s Managing Director, Justin Wateridge, Steppes Travel, Beyond: Steppes Travel Festival is a two-day travel festival featuring some of the most intrepid, adventurous and inspiring personalities of our time that’s taking place at the Royal Geographical Society on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September.
Wateridge has rounded up some of the travel world’s leading lights – we’re talking TV veterinarian Steve Leonard, naturalist Chris Packham, wildlife photographer, author and TV presenter Jonathan Scott, freediver and ocean conservationist Hanli Prinsloo, ‘world’s greatest living explorer’ Sir Ranulph Fiennes, National Geographic ‘Adventurer of the Year’ Alastair Humphreys, expedition leader and marine biologist Monty Halls, explorer Benedict Allen, ’Bird in a Biplane’ Tracey Curtis-Taylor and Edurne Pasaban – aka the first woman to summit all fourteen 8000 peaks in the world – with the aim of raising awareness and financial support for an array of wildlife and conservation charities.
For any Sybarites starting to think about their big 2017 holidays and looking for a little more from their annual leave than beaches and bars (our lives are short and the world is interesting so, really who wants to spend their precious time off stretched out on a sun lounger), Steppes Travel Festival is a must.
Saturday’s theme will be conservation and wildlife while Sunday will take the audience ‘Beyond the ordinary’ and, in addition to enlightening talks by the aforementioned big names, Sybarites can look forward to a conservation panel discussion with heavyweight conservationists – plus an action-packed programme of seminars by leading travel authors, photography masterclasses, art exhibitions, travel documentary screenings, travel clinics and much, much more.
In the words of Wateridge himself: “This is a unique opportunity to share a truly privileged travel and conservation perspective with our audience. I am delighted that so many of my personal heroes have agreed to speak at this, our first ‘Beyond’ Travel Festival and equally delighted that 100% of the profits will be shared amongst our partner charities, including Tusk Trust, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, WildCRU, I am Water, Restless Development and several smaller charities.”
We’ll see you in SW7…
