Bisma Eight Villas
Nestled in the middle of Ubud, next to the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, sits the newly opened Bisma Eight Villas; the latest in contemporary designed hospitality from Bisma Eight Hotel. Now known in my personal circles as the ‘Bali Dream House’, this beautiful villa is a short stroll down Jalan Bisma from the hotel. Each of these twelve villas are painted in white and terracotta and well-furnished with locally-sourced timber from Balinese craftsmen, decorated in a bohemian-chic aesthetic. Lucky guests of these villas will also find a private pool, an open-air living space, a kitchenette, and a secluded garden with an in-built shower.
It is love at first sight with Bisma Eight Villas; if you’re someone with taste, you will appreciate every gorgeous little design detail that has been thoughtfully presented within the four (open-air) walls. I had the pleasure of staying during February and thus, the rain season, but this didn’t dampen our spirits – it was actually rather lovely listening to the thunderstorm whilst preparing and eating dinner, even then it was still quite hot at 30 degrees. And yes, the clever architects and designers at Bisma Eight Villas have installed the best air conditioning system in the bedroom where it was very needed. It really did feel like our very own Balinese dream home.

Upstairs, in the air-conditioned bedroom, guests will find the softest bespoke linens and bedding which has been woven and naturally dyed exclusively for Bisma Eight. Then there’s the en-suite bathroom; a natural stone composite with two sinks, innovative storage spaces, a rainforest shower complete with a huge wooden Japanese soaking tub. Back downstairs, the large lounge area furnished in muted colours offers a view of the private garden and pool through a glass wall and a sliding door which opens from the kitchenette.
Guests can either choose from self-made or staff-prepared meals from the on-site restaurant, Embers; where Mediterranean-inspired and locally-sourced fare can be found. If guests feel restless, feel free to indulge and relax at Mandala, the villa’s luxurious spa, while Bisma also offers a free shuttle to head into the town centre of Ubud. Then there’s the Chapel, offering a unique wedding and events space that looks out onto Ubud’s famous Monkey Forest, while the Amphitheater is home to cultural events. Otherwise, I would highly recommend spending at least a couple of nights relaxing in the Bisma Eight Villa – recreating suburban life the Balinese way, is a lot more joyous.
