Experience the Ultimate Writers’ Retreat in The South of France

Have you always dreamed of writing a novel? Or have you embarked on a writing process already and have now found that you’re lacking in inspiration and passion? L’atelier des écrivains (The Writers’ Workshop) is a series of 4-day workshops held in the south of France, aiming to combat writers’ block and create an environment for creative minds to flourish.

Held in the idyllic village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, in south-west France, a space characterised by endless, rolling countryside and tiny towns, the surrounding scenery is enough to shift any amount of writers’ block and provide fresh inspiration for those participating. Set in an 18th century French manor house complete with sweeping staircase, heated swimming pool and delicious three-course meals made from some of the finest local produce, the groups will be kept to around 10 people in order to maximise productivity. Those lucky enough to take part in the retreat also have the option to take part in a variety of health and well being activities such as yoga, countryside walks and visits to local historic areas of interest.

Heading up L’atelier des écrivains’ first workshop, taking place between 20 and 24 September 2018, is lead tutor Helen Cross, whose first novel My Summer of Love has been adapted into a BAFTA award-winning feature film starring Emily Blunt. She is also an experienced tutor, having taught a number of courses, including the new MFA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. Her expert advice and guidance, along with the support from other writers, will be invaluable for all participants wanting to advance their fiction and creative writing skills.

Helen Cross says: “Opening your life to the art of creative writing can be life changing. Beginning your journey in beautiful surroundings not only makes for a memorable, enjoyable start, it encourages wide horizons and bold ambitions.”

The three 4-day workshops are laid out as follows:

Workshop 1: Getting started – Thursday 20 to Monday 24 September, 2018

Designed for people at the beginning of their writing journey, this workshop aims to help develop your writing skills, find your creative voice and gain the confidence needed to start getting your ideas on paper.

Workshop 2: Keeping going – Thursday 2 to Monday 6 May, 2019

For people who have already started their writing journey, this workshop will enhance your skills even further, helping you to overcome personal barriers and enable you to shape your words into an advanced and impressive piece of work to be proud of.

Workshop 3: Getting published – Thursday 5 to Monday 9 September, 2019

Ideal for people reaching the conclusion of a writing project, this workshop is designed to support the final stages of writing and editing, and will contain lots of useful information about how to get published and successfully market your book.
