Beginning from the main building – where black marble and iridescent shell flooring creates a super lux interior, each room type, from the suites to the villas, are exceptionally spacious, and offers guests individual luxuries; from ocean view Jacuzzis to a private pool, to decadent penthouse living unrivalled to other Bali beach resorts. At 84 sqm, the newly refurbished Ocean View Suites come with plenty of indoor space to lounge in, add in the state-of-the-art Bose sound system, a double rain shower and a king-size bed, and there isn’t a want for anything outside of the room, let alone the resort. For those who want to indulge a little more, there is a duplex penthouse available with a private pool and sundeck.
Once out of the room and into the resort, guests can find three different restaurants, each with their own unique spin on traditional gastronomic delights. First up, there’s the Sono Teppanyaki on the top floor, with an entertaining teppanyaki chef to begin your evening with traditional appetizers and hand-rolled sushi. We also enjoyed the imported scallops, yellowfin tuna steaks, and black Angus beef tenderloin with traditional sides of miso soup, salad and garlic rice. Beautifully prepared and deliciously presented. Then the 360 Restaurant, which (the clue is in the name) offers panoramic views of the sea from the top floor of the resort. We started each day with a breakfast buffet overlooking the crashing waves below, while lunch and dinner see a wide variety of a la carte dishes, from pasta and burgers to Indonesian delicacies such as Balinese crispy duck and fresh seafood. When you feel like you’re in need of a dramatic view, just head down to Botol Biru, past the infinity pool, where guests can enjoy a Wagyu beef burger overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The idyllic grounds include a cliff-edge elevator down to the rocky beach, though it’s not always in use, and the tide is not always swimmable. There is also a full-service spa with five beautiful treatment rooms where we enjoyed a relaxational massage, tailored to our individual needs. The hotel also boasts a fitness centre and yoga classes are offered every morning. By far, one of the most impressive hotels I’ve ventured to whilst in Bali, Anantara Uluwatu has a calming effect on the soul – this also may have been because we took a shuttle to the Uluwatu temple earlier that day (watch out for the monkeys!), there’s nothing like coming back to a beautiful sunset over the Indian Ocean that really puts you in a peaceful state of mind. Saying this, if anyone wanting to come here for something a little less tranquil, but a lot more romantic, let’s say a wedding (hint to no one in particular), the resort has a beautiful glass chapel with gorgeous ocean views to get married in!
