Every week, The Sybarite collates its pick of the hottest luxury lifestyle news into bite-size chunks. In this week’s edition, we cover the opening of Agatha Christie’s favourite hangout, membership club Mortimer House, a four-course Piemonte truffle dinner at Rotorino and a mother-daughter collaboration for gin lovers.
Manetta’s
As the Fleming hotel approaches its 170th birthday the hotel bar, Manetta’s, has been restored to its 1930s splendeur. Reviving the hotel’s golden era, when Manetta’s was a favourite hideaway for scholars of literature and the arts, the decadent underground bar is once again the perfect place for classic aperitifs, inventive cocktails and indulgent nightcaps.
Agatha Christie immortalised Manetta’s in At Bertram’s Hotel, and Sarah Helm used the bar as a backdrop in A Life In Secrets, a cloak and dagger Second World War spy thriller.
Mortimer House
Housed in a majestic six-floor Art Deco building in the heart of Fitzrovia, Mortimer House is opening this month. Founded upon a philosophy of holistic balance in work and life, the membership club features team offices, meeting rooms, event spaces, living room, terrace, studio and gym.
Mortimer House is also home to Mortimer House Kitchen, which is open to the public and serves exceptional Mediterranean cuisine.
Piemonte Truffle Dinner at Rotorino
Another of Stevie Parle’s restaurants, Rotorino will hold a four-course dinner centred around the truffles of Piemonte in Italy. Using 5g of white truffle, the menu features wild mushroom, lardo di colonata, fried polenta, truffle butter and shavings to start, before tagliolini with butter & white truffle.
After a dish of guinea fowl, veal and black truffle stuffing with Cavalo Nero, Bonèt with amaretto biscuits and creme fraiche will finish the meal.
Tanqueray Table
For the Gin lovers; who are putting the Gin first and the food second. The Tanqueray London Dry is about to put an unforgettable twist on the traditional supper club, curated by mother-daughter team Andi and Miquita Oliver – their first ever collaboration.
On 17-18 November, the gin takes centre stage alongside innovatively designed dishes that focus on the famous spirit’s unique botanical flavours. The experience includes a selection of exclusive Tanqueray cocktails designed by Miquita Oliver and three Tanqueray inspired small dishes designed by Andi Oliver.
