This Wednesday 26th, London Sybarites will don their finest tartan check and raise a glass to Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns; one of the world’s most praised poets. Burns, The Bard of Ayrshire, was a romantic and a rogue; a maverick, a libertine and a lyrical pioneer, who penned Auld Lang Syne (1786), To a Mouse (1785) and Address the Haggis (1786), to name but a few. Celebrate in style this week these events…
Look no further than Scottish stalwart Boisdale, offering a five-course feast of Caledonian fare throughout January in honour of the late poet, including Hebridean crab, roast Aberdeenshire dry-aged fillet of beef and, the star attraction, the roast Macsween haggis, served with a full address from the Boisdale resident piper.
The table-sharing evening will begin with the traditional Selkirk Grace (the procession of the centrepiece haggis). Tuck into a four-course feast of smoked salmon; haggis, neeps and tatties with whisky sauce; traditional cranachan and handmade oatcakes with a selection of Scottish cheeses, paired with complimentary wines and whisky and accompanied by a live Scottish piper.
J Sheekey
J Sheekey’s Scottish-themed winter terrace in Covent Garden will host a selection of luxurious single malts, covering all of the whisky regions of Scotland. Drams are served with isle of Mull scallops, Isle of Barra razor clams, Wester Ross salmon, Dover sole and Dublin Bay prawns.
Hix Mayfair
The annual HIX Mayfair and Brown’s Hotel collaboration is a Burns Night staple in London. This year Hix is partnering with his restaurant manager, Markus Savage, to serve up a menu of Scottish classics, including Blackface haggis and neeps, and red deer wellington with braised red cabbage.
Guests are encouraged to kilt up for this event, where there will be Glenfiddich, in both dram and cocktail form. There will also be piping, haggis canapes, poetry recitals and a lot of toasting.
