How to Kickstart the New Year

It’s almost January, 2019 is just around the corner and a whole new year is ahead of us. Here are The Sybarite’s top tips for starting a new year with a clear mind, a positive outlook and a dusting of healthy habits to help 2019 be the best year yet!
Clear out the clutter.

Your desk, your kitchen cupboards, your car. After all, a tidy space is a tidy mind! Who wants to start the new year with all of last year’s to-do list, invoices, memos and general rubbish accumulated on your desk or in the car?

Give your desk a 5 minute sort-out

Paper, pins, posted notes and other things in that ‘to-do’ pile and only keep what is vital and assign the rest to the dustbin. Tidy those kitchen cupboards, bin those inevitable out-of-date tins and spices lurking at the back and restock with your favourite items.

Re-vamp your wardrobe.

Get a charity bag together or go to a clothes swap event (@storiesbehindthings do a great one!) to streamline your wardrobe. Only keep the items that either mean something, that you love to wear or are useful. Those trousers you haven’t worn in over a year, or that top that’s waiting for the right occasion, give them a new home and feel great about it.

Say thank you to someone.

This one is oh-so-simple, but it’s something that a lot of us don’t do enough. Did someone do something within your business that added particular value? Did a family member go over and above for Christmas or New Year? Have you had excellent service at a favourite restaurant, café, or shop? Let them know, a letter, an online review or even just pop in and tell them. It’ll make their day, and who knows, it may make all the difference to the start of their year.

Try one new fruit or vegetable every week.

With a new year ahead, challenge yourself to trying a new fruit or veggie every week. Whether it’s a meal for yourself or cooking for family or friends, open those cook books once again and go to your local supermarket or greengrocers to see what you can find! Not only will this give your body a boost of new vitamins, minerals and fibre, you never know, you may even create a new favourite dish!

Get active.

Winter exercise is more difficult than at other times of the year, due to the practicalities of cold weather and short days. But it is possible and it is important, helping to reduce the risk of numerous health conditions. Dog walking, a gym class with a friends, signing up to a 5k or 10k, taking a lunch break walk or joining a gym, these all count towards getting our recommended step-count for each day. Make 2019 the year you get moving!

Above are just five of many things you can do to help to create a healthier, balanced start to what will be, a fantastic year. Here’s to 2019!
