This October, Westin Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of its first hotel in the Maldives with the launch of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort. Located on a coral island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site, the new addition to the Westin family will give guests a tranquil and rejuvenating escape from their busy lives. With 70 eco-friendly villas and suites, rainforest showers, a signature branded spa concept, fitness studio, and PADI dive centre, it’s of no surprise that the resort was a much-awaited opening for the brand.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Westin brand to the Maldives, strengthening our presence in [the] Asia Pacific [region],” said Mike Fulkerson, Vice President, Brand and Marketing, Marriott International Asia Pacific. “The opening of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is a significant addition to our portfolio, underscoring a transformative and meaningful wellness proposition for travelers who are increasingly prioritising well-being even whilst on the road.”
The Sybarite was invited to celebrate at the resort’s launch event at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington. The Romanesque venue was transformed for the evening into a tropical oasis to give invitees a taste of what they could expect from the idyllic new destination. Guests were welcomed with cocktails served out of freshly-opened coconuts and on-site masseuses were ready to help relieve tired shoulders. There were flower crown workshops which allowed guests to create whimsical tiaras out of fresh blooms and foliage. The famous Westin Heavenly Bed, known for its unique design that promises premium comfort and a restorative sleep, was a popular spot for those who wanted to rest their dancing feet. Dinner was an indulgent feast of Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and Maldivian flavours prepared by chefs from the resort’s three restaurants. With the dramatic blue whale skeleton overhead and the grand Hintze Hall awash in colours and lights, attendees partied the night away with music from the incredible live band.
“We look forward to welcoming our guests to discover the charm of the Maldives whilst at the same time enjoy the unparalleled level of service,” said Brendan Corcoran, General Manager at The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort. “Along with the Westin brand’s focus on wellness, we trust that every guest will feel exceptionally relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated during and after their stays.”
